July 2012, upon delivery of the A380 serial
number 078 to Malaysia Airlines.
The supplemental cooling system is a
high-power unit that features latest-generation
power electronics and a screw compressor.
The system provides additional cooling to
control the temperature level in areas such as
galleys and electronic bay.
In addition to the supplemental cooling
system, Liebherr-Aerospace supplies a
wide range of key systems to the Airbus
A380, including the high lift system, spoiler
actuation, the engine bleed air system as well
as the hydraulics cooling system.
INVENTORY IPHONE APP
Component Control has launched an iPhone
App for StockMarket.aero, a free online
aviation parts eMarketplace. Component
Control says the StockMarket.aero
iPhone App is the only free aviation parts
eMarketplace App currently available.
It allows StockMarket.aero members to
access over 40 million qualified line items of
aviation inventory and capability via a robust,
mobile format, says the company. "Users can
now work when and how suits them, be that
in the office or on the move 24/7, further
enhancing the productivity and efficiency
benefits StockMarket.aero delivers."
ICE-PROOF LASER COULD AID SAFETY
An Australian university has developed a low-
cost laser sensor that it says can quickly and
accurately measure the velocity of commercial
passenger aircraft and could complement
existing sensors and help prevent fatal
Using facilities provided by the Defence
Science and Technology Organisation
in Melbourne, researchers from UNSW
Canberra have developed and successfully
tested a proof-of-concept laser-based sensor
in a high-speed wind tunnel.
"One of the problems with current velocity
sensors is that they are susceptible to icing in
bad weather," says Dr Sean O Byrne from
the School of Engineering and Information
Technology. "Our technology is based on
laser light, meaning there are no physical
components in the airflow. Instead they
are located inside the aircraft where the
temperature can be controlled."
UNSW says the laser could back-up
the pivot tube, which is prone to icing -
and has been considered possible failure
points for several fatal aircraft accidents,
most recently, Air France flight 447,which
crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in June
"The technology we have developed
measures airspeed like a Pitot tube, but
doesn t have something poking out into the
air. It has a window, which can be built
into a recess in the body of the plane, and
which can be heated. This also means, in
sudden icing situations, it can be kept out
of the wind," says Dr O Byrne.
The first ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft
destined for the Asia Pacific Region was
delivered to leasing company Avation
in August as part of an agreement with
Australian regional carrier Skywest Airlines
and Virgin Australia.
Avation has placed firm orders for nine
ATR 72-600 aircraft to be operated on
Australian regional routes and has options
to purchase another eight ATR 72-600s. The
company already has six ATR 72-500s in

Australia as part of the agreement.
Jeff Chatfield, Chairman and Founding
Director of Avation Plc, said: "This is the
first of a series of ATR 72-600s we are
buying and we are delighted that it will be
the first operating in the Asia Pacific region
where we are successfully operating on a
number of Australian regional routes. The
acquisition is in line with our strategy to
own and maintain a fleet aircraft which
are of a low age and very fuel efficient
and which as a result, have a high residual
value to shareholders."
Alex, can I check that our stock levels of Aerofine are ok? I've got a large new order and the client has specified the
interior paint job must be exceptional.
Hi Mira, I've just re-ordered and AkzoNobel's delivery is always very quick so we'll be fine.
PS So here's a bit of Zen -- once a coating is dry is it then the aircraft?
