Gulfstream Aerospace celebrated the
first anniversary of its inaugural customer
delivery of its flagship aircraft, the
Gulfstream G650 in December. Since its
commercial release in December 2012, the
Gulfstream G650 has been a strong seller
for the US aircraft manufacturer, with nearly
50 customer deliveries to date.
In addition to establishing itself as a major
presence in the business aviation (BA) segment
in the very fast, ultra-long range category,
the G650 has also set numerous world-speed
records since commencing flight operations.
The most recent was set last July, when a
G650 completed a west-bound, around-the-
world flight in a record-breaking 41 hours and
7 minutes -- the fastest for a non-supersonic
aircraft. The aircraft has a maximum speed of
Mach 0.925 and can fly 6,000nm at Mach
0.90 or 7,000nm at Mach 0.85.
Gulfstream also recently celebrated the
first year anniversary of its service centre,
Gulfstream Beijing, at Beijing Capital
International Airport. Since commencing
operations in November 2012, the facility
has serviced more than 120 Gulfstream
aircraft, with China-based operators
accounting for well over half that number.
Gulfstream aircraft located in South Korea
and Japan have also utilised the facility.
Gulfstream Beijing s presence in the region
is a major asset given that more than 100
Gulfstream aircraft are based in both Hong
Kong and China, with the total number of
Gulfstream aircraft in the Asia Pacific region
exceeding 220 aircraft. The service centre
is certified to perform airframe maintenance
and avionics installation and repairs on
G550, G450 and G200 aircraft registered
in China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Gulfstream Beijing consists of a hangar,
which is 82,000ft2, and 22,000ft2 of offices
and back shops. The service and repair
centre is a joint venture between Gulfstream
Hainan Aviation Technik and Beijing Capital
Airlines (both of which are subsidiaries of
the Hainan Airlines Group) and Gulfstream
Aerospace. -- Benn Marks
